Delighted to have contributed to the next Webinar session of the EU Webinar Series on Circular Economy in Southeast Asia, sharing perspectives on advancing circular economy frameworks from regional ambition to national implementation.

Southeast Asian economies are not simply emerging; they are advancing rapidly and taking an increasingly important place in the global growth agenda. This momentum creates an important opportunity to make structural improvements to economic models by embedding principles of the circular (and regenerative) economies.

As we witness this progress, there is also an increasing need for strong national frameworks that can guide consistent and coordinated action.

We need:

– a systematic approach to anticipate the future and intentionally design better outcomes

– comprehensive plans that go beyond the easiest actions and address needs of the wider system

– practical and representative actions that reflect each countryโ€™s specific economic, social and environmental context

I was pleased to share lessons from my work on developing circular economy frameworks across Asia, particularly on how we can bridge the gap between high-level strategy and locally relevant implementation in developing a national circular economy framework and a roadmap for teh Philippines.

It was also valuable to exchange perspectives with regional and European experts on how collaboration between the EU and Southeast Asia can help accelerate the transition from circular economy ambition to practical action.
