Dr Mayuri Wijayasundara
Founder & Director of Anvarta
Dr. Mayuri is a leading expert in enablers of a circular economy and strategies towards transition, for public sector, industry, businesses and markets. She specializes in this domain with a wealth of experience spanning over 20 years as a business/industry practitioner, scholar and an advisor, with hands-on work in manufacturing, resource recovery, construction and building materials sectors.
As a practitioner, she held roles and led programs in strategic planning, business process and systems development, and supply chain management across diverse business landscapes, both within Australia and abroad. Following a relevant PhD, she held a tenured academic position at Deakin university, where she led multiple and diverse research programs focused on the circular economy until 2021. Her contributions to the field extend to authoring numerous research articles and book chapters and contributing to acclaimed international forums, such as the World Economic Forum.
Extending her professional expertise in circular economy, she serves a few boards in an advisory capacity. She is a member of the ministerial advisory committee of Recycling Victoria, executive board member of the Global Product Stewardship Council, and an advisory committee member of Australia New Zealand Biochar Industry Group. She was also engaged as Circular Economy Expert at UN Habitat.
Mayuri has a passion for travel and cooking, and enjoys translating her thoughts to paper.

Mayuri Wijayasundara (PhD, CGMA)

Mayuri is an expert in strategy, specializing in sustainable business practice and transition to a circular economy.
Mayuri has developed her expertise as a researcher and an industry practitioner.
She possesses over a decade of experience in manufacturing, resource recovery, and construction material industries, with 8+ years of senior managerial experience as a business leader, project manager, and consultant. She has led strategic planning, market and business process development, communications, supply chain management, and commercial services functions in diverse business environments in Australia and overseas.
Following her PhD, where she assessed an alternative that aligns with principles of circular economy, Mayuri entered an academic career in 2016.
As a researcher, Mayuri’s expertise is around the measurement of alternatives towards a circular economy for policy and business decision making using multi-criteria and integrated decision techniques and investigating enablers that increase the market competitiveness of such alternatives.
She is the author of several research publications resulting from her work and has shared her work in several conferences and forums. Leading her research group at Deakin University, Mayuri was a full-time academic till Dec 2021 and was the lead Deakin Chief Investigator of the Australian Research Council Industrial Transformation Research Hub for Transformation of Waste Resources into Engineered Materials and Solutions for a Circular Economy (TREMS). Mayuri is currently research-active through PhD supervision and as an investigator of TREMS.
Mayuri’s diverse exposure to business, problem-solving and analytical capability and specialized expertise developed as a researcher/academic investigating transition to a circular economy puts her in a unique spot as an expert to advise organizations in transforming their business practices towards a circular economy – aspiring to be more productive, value driven, environmentally respectful and resource conservation-focused.
