The conversations that reach the boardroom are the ones that drive action — with conscious commitment.

There were many conversations that sparked at the Climate Governance Forum, organised by Australian Institute of Company Directors last week. But one point in particular grabbed my attention.

Climate transition seems to be receiving disproportionately less attention in boardrooms than it did two years ago, as economic pressures, cost considerations and the realities of a changing business environment increasingly shape priorities.

Yet, in these conversations, we often spend significant time debating the cost of transition.
When we are tightening our belts, do we also pause to assess the cost of inaction — and, more importantly, the cost of not acting now?

For me, the bigger questions are:

What could inaction cost us tomorrow?

🏴 Are the potential exposures growing linearly — or could some of these risks compound exponentially over time?

🏴 And how do these risks ultimately affect business resilience and long-term value?

Perhaps the real challenge is finding a way to translate these risks into $ value — so they can be meaningfully compared with the cost of transition and brought into the decision-making conversation today.

Would love to hear your thoughts.
